Popular alternatives visa categories to the EB5
Quite often it is those that have been looking at the E2 and L1 visa routes who decide that in fact the EB5 visa may be a better option for them.
The problems with the E2 visa are relatively well documented. Indeed sadly too many families have had their lives devastated by going down the E2 visa route without realizing the inherent weaknesses of this visa. These include the fact that the E2 visa does not offer permanent residence i.e. you can only remain in The States whilst qualifying under its conditions - usually running a business – business failure may mean you have to leave – children over 21 who are no longer in full time education may have to leave – in the current business climate many E2 visa holders are concerned as to whether their visa will be renewed - each year a number of families have to leave as their E2 visa is not renewed – additionally of course some businesses sold on the basis of providing a viable standard of living are at best marginal and worse there have been several high profile instances of fraud.
The L1 visa also has its own problems, again it does not provide permanent residency (at last initially) you generally need to maintain a complying business in your own country, it is often granted initially for a relatively short time such as a year which can be insufficient to maintain a business.
