Relocation considerations for EB-5 immigrants
January 28th, 2010

relocationYou quite likely have an idea of what you will need to attend to in order to make the move from your home country to the United States.  But have you considered all the finer points of what that entails?  Have you thought about the actual act and timing of when to start looking for a home, how to go about doing that, how to secure a living space from thousands of miles away, and how to set up your financial house in the U.S. so that you are able to function once here?

Just to start you will need to consider these major relocation considerations:

•    Where to live – where will you make your permanent U.S. home, and what type of property will best suit your needs?  Is a temporary arrangement better for you and yours?

•    Where to learn – if children are in your family picture, how will they be educated?  What are your choices and responsibilities?  How do you go about enrolling your child in a school or university in the United States?

•    Health matters – the U.S. healthcare system is quite foreign to most immigrants.  How do you navigate it?  How do you obtain quality medical care in the U.S.?  Are you prepared for an emergency upon arrival if need be?

•    Financial concerns – your financial concerns are not ended with EB-5 investment; you still have the many daily concerns to consider and manage, including planning for living expenses, taxations, insurances, and even the mundane of day-to-day banking needs.

•    Establishing credit in the U.S. is a very important factor, but one that is so often taken for granted and mistakenly overlooked.  Learn the why and the how of reestablishing your good financial name so that you have the power to live well in the States.

These and many other finer points are all critical considerations to start learning about now. Relocation experts at WhichEB5 are available to help you with these and many other considerations.

Irish family successfully relocate to Florida on the EB-5 visa
July 17th, 2009

Today we look at an Irish family who had significant agricultural holdings in Ireland and wanted to provide an elevated standard of living for their family by relocating permanently to the U.S.A.

The family had been monitoring the progress of the EB-5 visa for several years. They had originally purchased property on the east coast of Florida and taken lengthy holidays/vacations to see how they would adjust to the American way of life. They then purchased other properties for rental, taking advantage of the bottoming of the property market and to build an earnings portfolio for eventual relocation.

They required a visa route that offered permanent residency and green cards for all the family, and wished to increase their property portfolio once resettled in Florida.

After a detailed briefing with us they decided the EB5 pilot program was the most appropriate option and looked into the various programs in more detail. They emphasized that they required a program which had not suffered from long processing delays caused by requests for further evidence by the USCIS (RFE’s), they also wanted a program that had previously complied with job requirements and had a clear and specific exit strategy.

After investigating the alternatives and narrowing it down to two options they opted for an infrastructure project which to date has a 100% track record of approval. Following clarification on a number of issues they invested $500,000 – plus regional center administration and attorney fees.

The family decided to sell their business and property assets in Ireland which provided them with total net worth well in excess of the required figure. The I-526 approval took three months and the couple were then interviewed at the U.S. Consulate and granted visas.

If you are planning to retire permanently to the USA and are interested in the EB5 regional center pilot program you can contact the partners of Which EB-5 for a personal consultation using this link

International tax law and successful EB-5 visa applicants
March 11th, 2009

I had a very interesting conversation today with a leading international accountant on the tax implications of relocation to the United States, we focused on the proposed tax changes currently the buzz in Washington DC – We also covered the tax considerations for applicants of the EB-5 investment visa from various countries.

It is important to cover all these points when considering a move to America as so often we are called in as troubleshooters to assist Clients who have been inadequately advised by a regional centre or their immigration attorney on the importance of international tax law and its affect on immigrants.

These subjects are very important to you if you are planning to take up residence in the USA.

Given your personality would relocation to The United States be utopia or hell?
February 18th, 2009

There was an interesting article in one of the immigration magazines recently that contained research from a psychologist, as to why a significant number of immigrants return back to their original home country after less than a year – and did extroverts or introverts tend to adjust better.

From the large number of troubleshooting briefs we have carried out over the past five years, we have identified two particular types of people who seem more vulnerable to adjusting when inevitably some things don’t always work out the way they planned.

The problems can often be traced back to a lack of due diligence ay the very start of their planning process and the two types of people affected are in many ways at opposite ends of the personality spectrum.

Those, who without realizing it, become dependent on advice from the people who have a sales related interest in them moving – they end up with all the positives and are not prepared for any of the negatives.

At the other extreme is the independent minded person who often has been very successful in their own country and feel they need the bare minimum, or none of the professional advice available.

It is interesting how these two groups feature in case studies For more details click here.

Will the EB5 pilot program extend after March 6th 2009?
February 16th, 2009

We understand that attempts are being made to include a  temporary extension bill in the 2010 Appropriation Bill, that must pass to replace the expiring Continuing Resolution bill, to continue government operations beyond March 6.

There might be a short gap after March 6th for the Appropriation Bill to be signed. Then, there will undoubtedly be attempts to pursue separate stand-alone bills to try to make EB-5 Regional Center a permanent program, as well as make some other improvements to the Program.

Our enquiries have indicated that both the House and Senate, and both Democrats and Republicans, are in support of the Regional Center EB-5 Program. However, there is a disagreement as to whether the extension should be for 5 years or permanent, or the extension should contain other improvements or revisions to the current EB-5 law – and of course there is always the risk that wider immigration issues could enter into the debate.

Record numbers want a way to emigrate to the USA
February 12th, 2009

According to reports in The Daily Telegraph, a growing number of British people are becoming fearful of the threat of increased taxes to finance the government’s economic policies, the persistent claims of doom and gloom in the media, the weather, and a sense that state pervasiveness of lives is growing. Another concern for young families is the quality  and cost  of good quality education in the UK. The Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development claims the UK is experiencing the largest exodus of professionals for fifty years.

With the world potentially facing the worst global recession/depression for sixty years we have seen interest in the EB-5 grow significantly from immigrants in a number of countries. In such uncertain times the USA is increasingly becoming the country of choice for immigrants who are relatively wealthy (i.e. have $500,000 for the investment visa) and are concerned about the future for their families in their home country.

Some view the right to permanent residence in The USA as insurance if things deteriorate back in their home country, for others the focus is education prospects, better opportunity or simply to retire in the warmth of Florida or California. Whatever your reasons for  more information on which EB5 click here

To date we have advised and worked successfully with immigrants from The UK, Canada, India, South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Australia, Holland,  and those actually living in the USA but on E2.L1 and other visas which they feel fail to provide the security of the EB5.

Latest information on the EB5 Regional Centers
February 1st, 2009

Two senior partners of Which EB5 recently attended a meeting with specialized advisors to review the latest information from all the regional centers which have been approved. Having worked with 100+ successful EB-5 applicants who have invested in a variety of approved centers, our senior partners are among the most experienced independent experts specializing in the EB5 visa and it became apparent during our meetings that independence in looking at the options is vital in avoiding costly mistakes . When visiting centers to review their programs it has been discovered, in certain cases, that their are big differences between brochure claims and reality. It is critical to remember when reviewing EB5 visa options that you need much more than the brochure and guided tour.

Choosing an EB5 Regional Center….

Don’t forget; you need the conditions removed from your Green Card after two years, and most of you would like your money back after 5 years. You need aggressive, specialist independent advice to see the reality behind the claims.

Regional Center Availability Update

Two of the most popular proven EB5 regional centers have nearly filled their places under their current projects - one of these programs proved very popular given the current economic situation as their job measurement criteria should mean there are fewer problems satisfying government requirements and their program is in association with state government financing which although providing a low interest rate to investors has proven popular in an uncertain world.

If you are  presently considering the pros and cons of approved regional centres contact the most experienced EB-5 advisers.

Will the EB5 visa pilot program be renewed?
January 30th, 2009

There has been concern that the EB5 regional centre visa pilot program is due to end on March 6th 2009. For many considering permanent residence and work or retirement in the USA the $500,000 investment in an approved regional centre has been the only realistic option open to them.

The latest news is that it does look as though there is the possibility that a six month extension for the EB5 visa may be incorporated into a continuation bill, which covers the temporary financing of government. However, we believe that a further five year extension is not clear as both the President and Congress may review the entire process and it has become apparent that the new administration may well have a number of other priorities.

Obtaining the latest information on the future of the EB5 may be critical to your timing for a move.  To obtain the latest information on what is happening in Congress, particularly if you are planning a move or considering the EB5 route, its worth getting an update on the progress of the EB-5 extention.

Looking beyond the immediate dangers of immigration to the USA
January 29th, 2009

The following article on America  recently appeared in Emigrate Magazine regarding cases of investigations into alleged theft of funds from potential immigrants. The problem is this article is only part of the story and certain important elements are missing which are of key relevance if you are considering immigration to the USA. We have carried out hundreds of briefings over the years to immigrants who have been at best misled and at times conned out of their savings; their dreams and whose lives have been ruined by the actions of others. We have come to realize what can and has gone wrong and found often the problems started with the earliest information they were given.

There are important points that need to be added to this story which make the situation even more worrying than has been reported, if you would like to go through all the dangers of immigration, let us know.

EB-5 Claims and Lies
January 25th, 2009

The immigration process to the States seems to have had its share of misleading information and and a recent case of fraud. Following our regular due diligence checks we have come across a number of problems.  A number of claims are being made from certain regional centers as well as from some visa consultants that need to be looked into. Recent examples of extremely dubious claims that require further elaboration include ‘eb5 visa in 6 months’, ‘only government approved regional centre’ - there are key reasons why these statements require further research before taking them as read. For complete unbiased opinion of EB5 Regional Centers seek experienced advice.
